Formed in 1973, BCWWA is a non-profit association dedicated to the safeguarding of public health and the environment through the sharing of skills, knowledge and experience in the water and wastewater industries.

The Ministry of Community Services' mandate is to promote sustainable, livable communities that provide healthy and safe places for British Columbians. The Ministry implements this mandate by providing the legislative, policy and governance framework for local governments; and providing advice and resources to local governments to plan for sustainable development and address issues related to communities' social, economic and environmental well-being.

Published by Forester Communications in the United State, STORMWATER is the Journal for Surface Water Quality Professionals. Published 8 times each year, STORMWATER reaches more than 25,500 subscribers. Before STORMWATER, there was no single publication written specifically for the professional involved with surface water quality issues, protection, projects, and programs.

We get energy from water, and we use energy to supply, treat and use water. Water use involves significant energy inputs which must be considered. The solutions to water and energy management issues require that decision-makers, policy leaders, and the public better understand the relationship between water and energy and take the necessary steps to ensure the sustainable supply and use of these resources.

The mission of the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark skies through quality outdoor lighting. The IDA was incorporated in 1988 as a tax-exempt non-profit organization operating exclusively for educational and scientific purposes.

Three provincial Ministries and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans have formed a Vancouver Island Coordinating Team to facilitate a consistent, science-based approach to rainwater management on Vancouver Island. Implementation is keyed to use of the Water Balance Model for British Columbia.The objective in aligning efforts is to advance the state-of-the-practice in rainwater management on Vancouver Island.

The Institute for Resources, the Environment and Sustainability (IRES) is both an interdisciplinary research institute and a major interdisciplinary graduate education program at the University of British Columbia. It is the mission of IRES to work to foster sustainable futures through integrated research and learning about the linkages among human and natural systems, to support decision making for local to global scales.

The Center for Livable Communities is a national initiative of the Local Government Commission (LGC) a nonprofit, nonpartisan, membership organization of elected officials, city and county staff, and other interested individuals throughout California and other states.
