In the City of Nanaimo, placing the emphasis on maintaining ‘flow characteristics’has facilitated implementation of a water balance way-of-designing on-lot measures for rainwater runoff volume reduction.
The City of Courtenay ia in the process of developing and implementing an Erosion and Sediment Control Bylaw through an inclusive and collaborative approach that educates and informs stakeholders. The bylaw is a tool that will assist with getting the “right thing” done to protect the environment from the effects of erosion and sediment.
In December 2006, three provincial Ministries and DFO formed a Vancouver Island Coordinating Team to facilitate a consistent, science-based approach to rainwater management on the Island.
