Water Bucket follows the saga of the 2009 drought in the District of Tofino
The District of Tofino, a village located in a rain forest, is again attracting media attention because the 2009 drought is impacting on water supply to this destination resort community.
“Tofino has emerged as a case study of interest; and Water Bucket will be following this story over the coming months,” states Mike Tanner, Chair of the Water Bucket Website Partnership. “Water practitioners are watching to see how the community rises to the challenge of reducing water demand and changing water-use habits during a period of climate change.”
Tofino tourists educated about water conservation alongside locals
“Tourism Tofino, Tofino Business Association, Tofino-Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and the District of Tofino recently banded together to work cooperatively in educating the public about the need to conserve water,” writes Sarah Douziech in an online article published on August 2, 2009 by the Westerly News.
“Using educational water conservation handouts for visitors and by talking with visitors who come to Tofino at the information centre, Tourism Tofino hopes to engage them in community efforts to reduce water consumption.”
