Water-Centric Planning

The mission of the Water Education Foundation, an impartial non-profit organization, is to create a better understanding of water issues and help resolve water resource problems through educational programs.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water. World Water Day is pivotal to focusing attention on the need, among others, to: address the problems relating to drinking water supply,
increase public awareness on the importance of conservation, preservation, and protection of water resources and drinking water supply, and increase governments, international agencies, non-governmental organisations, and private sector participation and cooperation in the organisation of WWD celebrations.

The WateReuse Association is a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the beneficial and efficient use of water resources through education, sound science, and technology using reclamation, recycling, reuse and desalination for the benefit of our members, the public, and the environment.

Global Water is an international non-profit, non-sectarian, non-governmental organization. By emphasizing volunteer help, Global Water serves as a vehicle for caring individuals to get involved in the world-wide effort to provide clean drinking water for developing countries.

The Urban Water Demand Management Project (UWDM) is a 2-year initiative, which began in January of 2003 at the POLIS Project on Ecological Governance. The UWDM Project, based out of the University of Victoria, seeks to understand the structure and dynamics of urban water use, and to provide mechanisms to help reorient Canadian water management from supply to demand-side approaches. In the context of ‘Governance for Innovation’, a term that promotes the adoption of innovative and alternative solutions, the UWDM project intends to develop a comprehensive legal and policy framework; as well as decision making tools that are of national and regional significance.

Staff of the RFC collect and interpret snow, meteorological and streamflow data to provide warnings and forecasts of stream and lake runoff conditions around the province.

Waterkeeper Alliance connects and supports local Waterkeeper programs to provide a voice for waterways and their communities worldwide. To champion clean water and strong communities, Waterkeeper Alliance: supports and empowers member Waterkeeper organizations to protect communities, ecosystems and water quality, promotes the Waterkeeper model for watershed protection worldwide, and advocates for issues common to Waterkeeper programs.

Trout Unlimited’s mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. TU accomplishes this mission on local, state and national levels with an extensive and dedicated volunteer network.

IWA is a global network of water professionals, spanning the continuum between research and practice and covering all facets of the water cycle.

IAEH is a worldwide association of environmental hydrologists dedicated to the protection and cleanup of fresh water resources. The IAEH mission is to provide a place to share technical information and exchange ideas, and to provide a source of inexpensive tools for the environmental hydrologist, especially hydrologists and water resource engineers in developing countries.
