BCWWA Seminar on Climate Change

In partnership with the BCWWA Climate Change Committee, the BC government’s Climate Action Secretariat will hold a 1-day workshop on adapting to climate change on Wednesday May 5th. BC’s climate change adaptation strategy will be introduced and actions being taken by government, including the Ministries of Environment and Transportation and Infrastructure, will be presented.

There will also be presentations on the most recent climate change projections for BC developed by the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium, and local government representatives will talk about proactive steps already being taken to adapt. Preparing effectively for climate change will require decisions based on an understanding of future climate, not just the climate of the past. Smart investments that consider current climatic hazards and future climate risks will reduce long-term costs for infrastructure, and contribute to the maintenance and protection of societal goods and services.

Facilitated discussions will be held after each section of the program so bring your ideas and questions to the workshop.

Session Goal: To share understanding about what it will take to ensure that British Columbia is prepared for and resilient to the impacts of climate change.

Who should attend: System operators, local government staff, contractors, consultants, planners and those who want to know what Climate Adaptation is all about.
