British Columbia Ground Water Association
Posted February 2006
The British Columbia Well Drilling Association was founded in 1970. Its mandate was to:
- Support and promote the interest and welfare of B.C.’s water well industry;
- Place water well contracting businesses on scientific and business-like ground;
- Foster and promote scientific education, standards, research, and techniques to improve the methods of water well construction;
- Promote harmony and cooperation between members and government agencies relative to the proper development and protection of the underground water supply, and to generally advance the mutual interest of those engaged in the water well industry in their own and the public interest.
The name was changed in 1993 to better represent the association’s expanded role. The British Columbia Ground Water Association now has members from 70 drilling companies, 31 manufacturers and suppliers, and 17 professional and technical companies. It also has 34 associate members.
The association is currently working with government to obtain certification for well drillers and pump installers. To that end, a series of five workshops was held in various regions of B.C. last year to educate key stakeholders about B.C.’s new Groundwater Protection Regulation.
