Building a successful workforce diversity program (AWWA Journal, September 2005), begins by saying that, “From a melting pot to a salad bowl, there are many ways to describe the diversity of people that make up any large North American city. In a diverse urban workplace, different types of people can go beyond merely coexisting and, through their diversity, create exciting work environments.” It goes on to argue that, “Recognizing and embracing diversity in the work environment can also pay dividends in terms of increasing respect and teamwork among employees, and bringing more value and creative problem-solving to almost any situation.”
