“The City of Surrey has extensive experience with ISMP development and implementation. Now in its fifth decade of continuous implementation experience, the City continues to evolve and adapt a watershed–based approach that incorporates lessons learned in getting green infrastructure built right,” states Carrie Baron.
“Once we know what we want our watersheds and neighbourhoods to look like, the next step is to decide what the tools are that will get us there. All of us need to understand and care about the goal if we are to create the future that we all want,” stated Vincent Lalonde.
“Investigation of opportunities for the application of green infrastructure objectives is now expected in all the City’s land use plans. Furthermore, Integrated Stormwater Management Plans (ISMPs) will provide the basis for implementing green infrastructure objectives to support a design with nature approach on a watershed scale,” stated Paul Ham.
“Metro Vancouver has contributed $50,000 to fund further enhancement of the Water Balance Model because widespread use of this decision tool will help Metro Vancouver and members fulfil our regulatory commitments, in particular those related to integrated rainwater management,” stated Port Coquitlam Mayor Greg Moore, Chair of the Metro Vancouver Board.
“During the 2000-2001 period we had to overcome fear and doubt in order to move ahead with projects such as the East Clayton Sustainable Community in Surrey, and UniverCity on Burnaby Mountain. It was David Reid who coined the overcoming fear and doubt mantra; it stuck and became an integral part of the UniverCity story,” Kim Stephens told a 2007 conference..
“The ‘missing link’ has been the single family detached dwelling. Yet, the ultimate audience goes well beyond homeowners. The WBM Express is a vehicle to connect with builders, developers, consultants, real estate agents and students/educators,” stated Kim Stephens.
Louise Towell is a founder of the award-winning Stream of Dreams Murals Society that delivers a watershed education and community art program nationwide. With her persistence and dedication, Louise forged a partnership among streamkeepers, various City of Burnaby departments, local schools, firefighters and developers.
“Thousands of dedicated streamkeepers across British Columbia put in tens of thousands of volunteer hours every year caring for local creeks, rivers and watersheds,” states states Paul Cipywnyk.
“The experience and wisdom of local government champions who have developed precedent-setting watershed plans will provide the curriculum backbone for a 2-day course. This will go a long way towards ensuring alignment with the Province’s Living Water Smart and Green Communities initiatives,” stated Kim Stephens.
“The Partnership began as a subgroup of Metro Vancouver's Stormwater Interagency Liaison Group. It quickly expanded to become a provincial group with municipal representation from four regions,” states Ted van der Gulik.
