Representatives of the British Columbia Inter-Governmental Partnership, Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership, and the Toronto & Region Conservation Authority met in Calgary on October 31, 2007 to define the framework for an Inter-Provincial Partnership.
In November 2007, the Capital Regional District hosted a full-day workshop titled Bio/Infiltration: Tools for Rainwater Management. The workshop featured case studies from both sides of the Georgia Basin, thereby facilitating a sharing of experiences

Local governments in British Columbia have extensive and very specific tools available to them to implement rainwater management solutions. They also have the discretion to use them or not. Decisions about a local government’s appropriate level of involvement in rainwater and stream corridor management must therefore be guided by a set of clear, broadly agreed-upon objectives, as well as an understanding of the need for balance with other competing objectives and interests.

The City of Chilliwack’s Policy and Design Criteria Manual for Surface Water Management serves two purposes. It provides a comprehensive framework that will guide the development of individual Master Drainage Plans over a multi-year period; and it provides land developers with specific direction in undertaking the stormwater component of sustainable urban design.
CAVI is the acronym for Convening for Action on Vancouver Island. CAVI is a regional pilot program that is being implemented under the umbrella of the “Water Sustainability Action Plan for British Columbia”. The purpose of CAVI is to provide research and education for practitioners (primarily local government administrators, engineers, planners and elected officials) so that they can plan for sustainable water resources in the context of burgeoning settlement activity.

The Water Balance Model for BC demonstrates how to achieve significant progress towards sustainability in a number of categories. While the focus is on integration of land use planning with stormwater management for urban watershed protection, the vision is to facilitate a closed loop approach to management of the urban water cycle. The objective is that stormwater volume reduction will be seamlessly integrated with land use planning and site development practices.
Staff of the RFC collect and interpret snow, meteorological and streamflow data to provide warnings and forecasts of stream and lake runoff conditions around the province.
