Flashback to 2009: Ministry of Community Development announced that "Beyond the Guidebook" is an ongoing provincial initiative that supports and/or complements Living Water Smart and Green Communities

Launched in June 2007 with release of Beyond the Guidebook: Context for Rainwater Management and Green Infrastructure in British Columbia is an ongoing initiative of the Province of British Columbia. Program delivery is through the Partnership for Water Sustainability in BC. Over the years, the Province has reaffirmed the provincial relevance, significance and importance of the Beyond the Guidebook Initiative. Typically reaffirmation has been in the form of announcements made by Deputy Ministers representing two provincial ministries – Environment (in 2012 and 2016) and Community Development (in 2008). In 2009, the Deputy Inspector of Municipalities issued a Circular to all local governments.

Beyond the Guidebook: Context for Rainwater Management and Green Infrastructure in British Columbia

On February 10, 2009 the Ministry of Community Development sent out a circular to all Municipal and Regional District Chief Administrative Officers, Engineers and Planners regarding the Beyond the Guidebook provincial initiative.

Signed by Glen Brown, the purpose of the Circular is to explain how a number of provincial initiatives support and/or complement each other. Glen Brown was formerly the Executive Director, Local Government Infrastructure and Finance. He was also Deputy Inspector of Municipalities.
