The Power of Story: Teaching Through Storytelling

“We learn through stories. This is how we pass on our oral history. Storytelling is the way we share intergenerational knowledge, experience and wisdom” wrote Kim Stephens, Synopsis author and Partnership Executive Director.

“We share our world view through our stories and storytelling. It is not the technical stuff that carries the day. It is the stories about the technical stuff that carry the day.”

Georgia Basin Initiative is a watershed moment in the history of the Metro Vancouver region

“Launched in 1994, the Georgia Basin Initiative was a call to action by the provincial government led by Premier Mike Harcourt. The influence of the GBI has rippled through time in profound and lasting ways.”

“The living legacy of the Georgia Basin Initiative is embedded in and embodied by the Georgia Basin Inter-Regional Educational Initiative. Led by the Partnership for Water Sustainability and supported by five regional districts surrounding the Salish Sea, the IREI is the successor initiative to the GBI and is in Year 13.”

“In 2024, in the Chronicle of Green Infrastructure Innovation in Metro Vancouver, the Partnership honours and celebrates the 30th anniversary of a watershed moment in BC history. The chronicle is a sweeping narrative of the Georgia Basin Initiative and mission, the key players who drove it, and what has followed in its wake over three decades and counting.”
