Five Regional Districts representing 75% of BC’s population are partners in the Georgia Basin Inter-Regional Educational Initiative (IREI). A program deliverable is Beyond the Guidebook 2015.
On November 10 and 12, 2015, the process of informing regional elected representatives about implementation commenced with presentations in Metro Vancouver and the Comox Valley. The outreach process continue with presentations in the Capital, Cowichan and Nanaimo regions on November 25-26, 2015.
Beyond the Guidebook 2015: Moving Towards “Sustainable Watershed Systems, through Asset Management”
By 2017, it is envisioned that professional development provided by the IREI program would result in a common understanding among all departments within an organization about how they could align their efforts to achieve Sustainable Watershed Systems, through Asset Management.

“The ‘convening for action’ initiative is the best example of peer driven innovation that I have ever seen,” stated Dale Wall, former Deputy Minister, BC Ministry of Community Development. An original champion of the Beyond the Guidebook initiative, Dale Wall provided a foreword to Beyond the Guidebook 2015.
“It has led to nothing less than a quiet revolution in how we approach the design and construction of human settlements in British Columbia. When I see an urban stream coming back to life or an innovative approach being taken to new infrastructure, I think of the networks of innovative professionals that not only stand behind this work but also continue to create positive change. I firmly believe that this ability to creatively innovate in support of sustainable practices will enable us to meet a host of future challenges.”
