Released in June 2010 at the ‘Dialogue in Nanaimo’, Beyond the Guidebook 2010 describes how water sustainability can and will be achieved through implementation of green infrastructure policies and practices.

“We have developed and implemented a ‘made in BC’ process that we call Convening for Action in BC,” states Ray Fung, Chair of the Green Infrastructure Partnership. “When we gather, it is for a purpose. There must be an action item or an outcome. Our aim is to move from talk to action by developing tools, providing training, and building capacity.”
‘Convening for Action’ Partners
“Six primary partnerships are collaborating and working as a team under the umbrella of the Water Sustainability Action Plan for British Columbia. The members of the team share a vision for improving the way communities develop land and use water,” explains Ray Fung.
“John Finnie, Chair of Convening for Action on Vancouver Island, represented the ‘convening for action’ partners and made the announcement about ‘Beyond the Guidebook 2010’ on our behalf. Ted van der Guilik, IGP Chair, also attended the formal release at the Dialogue in Nanaimo.”

“Beyond the Guidebook 2010 is outcome-oriented. When the right people with the right knowledge are involved at the right time to apply informed judgment in a collaborative process, the outcome-oriented approach saves time and money,” stated John Finnie at the ‘Dialogue in Nanaimo’.

The Guidebook reference is to Stormwater Planning: A Guidebook for British Columbia. Released in 2002, this was a catalyst for action to implement a ‘design with nature’ approach to rainwater management and green infrastructure.
