“Let’s look at some of the issues associated with and define ‘The Perfect Storm’. Affordability appears to be the main issue,” wrote Wally Wells, editor of the Asset Management BC Newsletter in his opinion piece in the Summer 2024 edition.
“After the pandemic rents and housing costs increased, material supply was disrupted causing increased prices, homelessness increased, and house prices significantly increased. The homeless situation has become very serious, as have deaths from drug overdose causing our local Council and Board members to focus a lot of time on these issues at the expense of others. There is a potential overload position for Council members.”
“With an Asset Management policy to drive the process, the asset management framework and plan, along with the long-term financial plan, Councils and Boards have the background and analysis necessary to make informed decisions and stay within financial limits.”
