Hong Kong promotes ‘Blue-Green Infrastructure’ for liveable city

Improving the Living Environment

Hong Kong’s Director of Drainage Services, Mr Edwin Tong, said that in the term Blue-Green Infrastructure, “blue” refers to water bodies while “green” represents greening, landscaping, carbon reduction and energy saving.

edward-tong_hong-kong-govt_120pBased on the sustainability principle, Blue-Green Infrastructure enhances the community’s living environment and maintains Hong Kong as a liveable city “for you and me”.

He said that, in flood prevention, the Drainage Services Department carries out drainage improvement works to enhance the flood conveyance capacity, and at the same time, to revitalise rivers with water features, landscape beautification and ecological concepts so as to build green channels and improve the living environment for the community.
