“We are fostering a growing understanding of the fact that what goes on at a site, in terms of how rainwater is treated, is linked not only to stream and watershed health, but also to our social well-being and aesthetics of our communities,” stated Jay Bradley.
“The educational approach is helping us to identify and empower a core group of local champions who will then have the expertise to apply and advance the water balance approach to land development,” stated Peter Nilsen.
“What was unique about our approach was the educational context. Willing project proponents volunteered to develop and share the case studies. It truly was a collaborative effort,” recalls Rob Conway.
“The Comox Valley experience has broad application potential throughout Vancouver Island and beyond. It demonstrates that when the parties reach for a common vision and work through their jurisdictional differences it is possible to accomplish mutual goals,” observes Eric Bonham
“Established by the Provincial Government in 2006, the vision of the Living Rivers Trust Fund is to create a legacy for British Columbia based on healthy watersheds, sustainable ecosystems and thriving communities. Collaboration with CAVI provides a comprehensive vision for water sustainability,” staes Alan Lill.
”People eagerly embrace the opportunities for engagement and education. They really want to share their thoughts and experiences. Residents have a stake in restoring watershed health. There is so much experience that we can mine. We who live in the watershed are the experts,” stated Soren Henrich.
“The Tsolum story underscores the value of community stewards working collaboratively with government agencies and the private sector towards a common vision. It also highlights the need for dedicated insiders within government who ‘stay the course’ and remain committed,” wrote Eric Bonham.
