CAVI and VIEA co-host “Forum within the Summit” at the 2011 State of the Island Economic Summit
The Public Infrastructure Dilemma: How Will We Sustain Our Water, Our Streets and Ourselves?
In October, the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA) hosted its 5th Annual Summit. As part of the program, CAVI-Convening for Action on Vancouver Island held a “Forum within the Summit” on the afternoon of October 18th.
The Forum started at 12:30pm and ended at 3:30pm. This pre-Summit breakout session was co-hosted by CAVI and VIEA’s Sustainability Committee.
“The Forum program was designed for local government, and was built around the ‘infrastructure liability’ theme. Fiscal constraints provide a driver for a change in the way local governments plan, finance, implement, and over time replace infrastructure,” reports John Finnie, General Manager for Regional and Community Utilities at the Regional District of Nanaimo. He chaired CAVI from its launch in 2006 until he stepped down at the ‘Forum within the Summit’.
