Tree Canopy Research Project

The story of the UBC Tree Canopy Interception Research Project is included in  ‘Beyond the Guidebook 2010’. The project was undertaken during the periopd 2005 through 2010; and was facilitated by Metro Vancouver’s three North Shore municipalities, namely: District of North Vancouver, City of North Vancouver and District of West Vancouver.

Richard boase (75p) - taken at premiers awards dinner“One of our research interests was to determine the effectiveness of a single tree versus that for a cluster of trees,” explains the District of North Vancouver’s Richard Boase. He is Co-Chair of the Inter-Governmental Partnership that developed and maintainsthe Water Balance Model for British Columbia.

“We explored and quantified the variables influencing the interception process. We also investigated the effects of tree density, tree structure and tree species on rainfall interception.”
