2009 Vancouver Island Learning Lunch Series organized under the umbrella of the Water Sustainability Action Plan
Getting Ahead of the Wave
Organized under the umbrella of the Water Sustainability Action Plan for British Columbia, the 2009 Vancouver Island Learning Lunch Seminar Series was a collaboration of:
- four local governments in the Comox Valley, namely: Comox Valley Regional District, City of Courtenay, Town of Cumberland, Village of Cumberland
- the Comox Valley Land Trust
- Convening for Action on Vancouver Island(CAVI)
- the Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia
- the Green Infrastructure Partnership, and
- two provincial Ministries, namely: Community & Rural Development; Environment
The Series theme, Getting Ahead of the Wave, defined what the four Comox Valley local governments wished to accomplished in building on the foundation provided by the 2008 Learning Lunch Series.
Collaboration Challenge
The Comox Valley is demonstrating a ‘regional team approach’ because a convergence of interests has created an opportunity for all the players to set their sights on the common good, challenge the old barriers of jurisdictional interests, and make sustainability real.

The following challenge statement provided the starting point for curriculum development for the 2009 Learning Lunch Series:
