Workshops on Species-At-Risk Management
The BC Ministry of Environment (MOE) and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) have held two workshops to increase awareness of Species at Risk, their habitat and management issues.
The first event was held in August 2005 and the second in November 2005. Both events included presentations on the Water Sustainability Action Plan in general, and the Water Balance Model for British Columbia in particular.
Kim Stephens, Program Coordinator for the Water Sustainability Action Plan, was a featured presenter at both events. His presentations were titled Green Infrastructure & the Water Balance Model: A Tool for Designing with Nature.
McKee Peak Workshop
The August workshop was integrated with the land development planning process for the McKee Peak area of Abbotsford, and was co-hosted by the City of Abbotsford. The workshop purposes were three-fold:
- Clarify roles and responsibilities of landowners and regulatory agencies to facilitate development that all parties support on McKee Peak.
- Identify the benefits and incentives to landowners for protecting the natural environment, and solutions to balancing development with preservation of unique character and regionally significant attributes of the area.
- Develop recommendations to Abbotsford Council on options for land development on McKee Peak.
