CAVI announces postponement of 2010 Comox Valley Learning Lunch Series

Continuing education program will resume in Spring 2011

In February 2010, the four Comox Valley local governments and the Comox Valley Land Trust reaffirmed their commitment to a program of continuing education known as the Vancouver Island Learning Lunch Seminar Series.

Previously the City of Courtenay and Comox Valley Regional District hosted series. The Town of Comox undertook to host and chair the third in the series. These series are organized by the ‘Como Valley Regional Team’ in collaboration with Convening for Action on Vancouver Island, known by the acronym by CAVI.

Decision to Postpone

“Originally scheduled for the period September-October-November 2010 period, the regional team realized the program would benefit by delaying it until Spring 2011,” reports Kim stephens (120p) - dec 2010Kim Stephens, speaking on behalf of the CAVI Leadership Team. “The reason is that the Comox Valley Regional Team has moved beyond continuing education for the sake of professional development. Rather, the learning lunch seminars provide neutral forums where the four local governments can explore a consistent approach to regional policy. Hence, it is essential that they take the time needed to do things right.”

“In particular, it is necessary for us to wait and see how the Regional Growth Strategy plays out. Once the strategy is approved by the Regional Board and three Municipal Councils, the learning lunch forums can then serve as an implementation mechanism related to the infrastructure dimensions of the Regional Growth Strategy. The local governments will then be able to say this is what the words mean and this is how we will proceed.”
