Forum Theme: Success Stories & Lessons Learned

The 2nd Annual Water Balance Partners Forum was organized by the Inter-Governmental Partnership along the lines of an Annual General Meeting. It was structured in three parts.

In the first segment, the IGP Leadership presented an investment review and website tour.

The theme for the second segment was The 3-Year Plan.

The third segment was a Roundtable Discussion on lessons learned.

The forum was hosted by the Greater Vancouver Regional District on October 28, 2004. Inter-regional in scope, the forum was attended by representatives from Vancouver Island and Fraser Valley municipalities in addition to those from the Greater Vancouver region.

“Partners were encouraged to present a 5-minute synopsis of how the WBM is being applied in their community, what related initiatives are being implemented, and what lessons have been learned,” stated Kim Stephens, Coordinator for the Inter-Governmental Partnership.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA“This provided a starting point for sharing of experiences and offering feedback on what the IGP can do to make the WBM even better.”

“Two points became clear during the roundtable segment.”

“The Partners outside the Greater Vancouver Region are moving faster than those within the region to implement comprehensive changes to bylaws, and to reference the WBM in those bylaws.”

“There is a growing interest and a particular focus on streetscapes and street trees as a means of achieving livability and water balance objectives.”
