“CAVI runs a wide variety of programming that brings participants together to share best practices and identify barriers to achieving environmentally responsible development,” writes Elysha Ames.
“The notion of ‘sustainable communities’ begins with a discussion of values that communities declare or reflect as changes occur in their landscapes. The solutions and commitments go beyond what government does,” states Tim Pringle.
“The phrase ‘water for life and livelihoods’ conveys the principles of sustainability of natural systems in their own right and in relation to the health and wellbeing of people who benefit from the use of water for basic life needs and economic activity,” states Tim Pringle.

“The Inland Kenworth project in Nanaimo has been incorporated into the curriculum for the Learning Lunch Seminar Series to illustrate how a Design with Nature approach to rainwater management will influence the greening of the built environment and protect stream health,” states Kim Stephens.
“We organized the roundtable event to engage the major Vancouver Island developers in a conversation about the factors that facilitate or hinder their efforts to design, plan for and implement development incorporating Green Value Strategies on Vancouver Island,” said Jack Hall, REFBC Chair.
“We are identifying case studies that celebrate leading examples of real estate development projects in Vancouver Island communities. These case studies illustrate how green value approaches have been implemented, and include a review of the benefits/liabilities of each project,” states Tim Pringle.
The Ministry of Community Services and Real Estate Foundation of British Columbia have concluded that there would be value in jointly funding a catalogue of local government policies and practices that accommodate settlement while at the same building in green value – such that the outcome of each policy or practice contributes to A Positive Settlement Strategy.
“The City of Courtenay's Official Community Plan illustrates the benefits that result when municipal master planning and program implementation are guided by an holistic way-of-thinking that ‘connects the dots’ to achieve integrated and sustainable solutions,” stated Kevin Lagan.
Three Vancouver Island case studies comprised of commercial developments represent a linked set.They address similar rainwater management issues including extensive impervious surfaces as well as challenging geological and hydrological site features, and in every project “design with nature” technologies have been used to address these challenges. Finally, the same owner's agent was responsible for all three projects.
