BLUE ECOLOGY WORKSHOP: “Metro Vancouver along with other local governments currently provide support to the Georgia Basin Inter-Regional Education Initiative and Partnership for Water Sustainability,” wrote Peter Navratil, General Manager, Liquid Waste services

Note to Reader:

The Blue Ecology Workshop is an outreach and professional development event organized under the umbrella of the Georgia Basin Inter-Regional Education Initiative (IREI), which is supported by the Metro Vancouver Regional District.

When it met on November 9, 2017 the Metro Vancouver Utilities Committee approved a staff recommendation to sponsor the Blue Ecology Workshop. The decision was then ratified by the Metro Vancouver Board when it met on November 24.

Fostering Dialogue in the Metro Vancouver Region

“The Blue Ecology Workshop builds on previous initiatives undertaken by the Partnership and supported by Metro Vancouver. It is aligned with and supports Metro Vancouver’s Sustainability Framework and Board Strategic Plan.” wrote Peter Navratil.

“The workshop would build community capacity and knowledge in the Metro Vancouver region. In addition, the workshop benefits Metro Vancouver and its members by fostering dialogue on sustainable watershed systems, asset management and climate change. This supports Metro Vancouver’s water and liquid waste plans.”

Raising the Profile of the Blue Ecology Workshop

The Partnership for Water Sustainability was pleased when Metro staff informed us about the management decision to place the Partnership’s sponsorship request on the political agenda,” stated Kim Stephens, Partnership Executive Director. “The $1500 amount was within the discretionary limits of management. By bringing the request to the attention of the regional politicians, this helped to raise the profile of the event. The Partnership is therefore appreciative.”
