PARTNERSHIP CELEBRATES 5-YR ANNIVERSARY: “Never forget, it all started with a conversation,” says John Finnie, Past-Chair, CAVI-Convening for Action on Vancouver Island

Note to Reader:

The incorporation date for the Partnership for Water Sustainability in BC, a not-for-profit society, is November 19, 2010. To celebrate the 5-year anniversary of this milestone, those who have played leadership roles are providing their reflections on what has been accomplished over the years. This encompasses the period leading up to incorporation and the five years since incorporation.

In this post, John Finnie provides his reflections. He is a current member of the Partnership’s Leadership Team, the Past-Chair of the CAVI-Convening for Action on Vancouver Island initiative, and the former General Manager for Regional and Community Utilities at the Regional District of Nanaimo.

CAVI-Convening for Action on Vancouver Island

CAVI is the acronym for Convening for Action on Vancouver Island. Launched in 2006 at the Water in the City Conference, CAVI became an initiative of the Partnership for Water Sustainability in British Columbia in 2010. Since inception, the CAVI program has been delivered under the umbrella of the Water Sustainability Action Plan for British Columbia. The Partnership is responsible for program delivery.

John Finnie_2015_v1_500p“The principles of success for both the CAVI initiative and the PWSBC organization are similar,” notes John Finnie. “Hard-working individuals with like interests and visions, communicating with each other in a positive, no-pressure, educational way.  Sharing challenges and successes and understanding how to achieve those successes has demonstrated what can be accomplished through partnerships and collaboration. Many of our initiatives and success stories have stemmed from the realization that what happens on the land does indeed matter and that a systems approach to watershed health does work. Let’s continue along this path.”
