About Asset Management BC
“Asset Management BC provides leadership and support for the management of community infrastructure. The group is comprised of associations and communities, brought together to recognize and integrate the political, administrative, technical, operational, financial and planning aspects of asset management,” reports Wally Wells, ExecutiveDirector.
“Asset Management BC has five stated purposes, one of which is to support the development of a local government asset management strategy for the province. Another of our defined purposes is to consider all matters respecting the broadest interpretation of asset management strategies, tools and results for the betterment of our communities.”

To visit the Asset Management BC website, click here. Currently Asset Management BC activities are focusing on developing a toolkit for local governments. Activities include pilot projects, a local government asset management self assessment tool, and an asset management roadmap.
View Watersheds through a ‘Sustainable Service Delivery’ Lens
“The Living Water Smart and Green Communities initiatives are catalysts for ‘designing with nature’: Start with effective green infrastructure and protect environmental values. Get the watershed vision right. Then create a blueprint to implement green infrastructure,” states Glen Brown, the Executive Director of the Province’s Local Government Infrastructure and Finance Division and the Deputy Inspector of Municipalities. Glen Brown was a driving force for creation of Asset Management BC.
“The legislative authority for integration of land use planning and asset management, including financial management, already exists. Local governments can develop a truly integrated Asset Management Strategy that views the watershed though an environmental lens.”
“The Province’s branding for this holistic approach is Sustainable Service Delivery. Asset management usually commences after something is built. The challenge is to think about what asset management entails BEFORE the asset is built. Cost-avoidance is a driver for this ‘new business as usual’. This paradigm-shift starts with land use and watershed-based planning, to determine what services can be provided affordably over time.”
Asset Management BC is a Champion Supporter of the Partnership for Water Sustainability
The Champion Supporter designation allows the Partnership to formally recognize agencies and organizations that provide substantial financial and/or in-kind support that in turn enables the Partnership to develop tools and deliver programs under the umbrella of the Water Sustainability Action Plan for British Columbia.
